Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions. In this position you will serve as an Engineering Technician. Typical assignments include:
Planning, developing, executing and reviewing complex and unique drawings and integrating drawings from a variety of engineering areas. Overseeing and coordinating all activities pertaining to the construction, acquisition, operation, and maintenance of facilities to meet and support training mission needs and objectives. Preparing drawings for civil, electrical, mechanical, structural, and architectural components. Completing layouts for a variety of technical mechanical equipment which possesses integral parts and varied complex sized, shapes and functions including boilers, chillers, pumps, and associated equipment. Reviewing drawings to ensure that drafting work is accurate and well-arranged. Utilizing Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) software to provide technical design assistance and drawing production. Developing and implementing strategic plans and schedules for facility repair and maintenance activities. Providing cost estimates and analyses, time estimates, and other input to plans and specifications for projects for new construction and renovations. Ensuring that immediate and long-term environmental concerns are appropriately reflected in design construction, anticipated operations, and eventual disposal of such facilities. The qualification requirements listed below must be met within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. You qualify for this position at the GS-11 level (starting salary $64,180) if you possess the following:
One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-09) in the Federal Service. This experience may have been gained in the federal government, a state or local government, a non-profit organization, the private sector, or as a volunteer; however, your resume must clearly describe at least one year of specialized experience. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Developing infrastructure projects and drawings which involve a variety of engineering areas; Creating work packages to include project cost estimates for construction projects; and Utilizing Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD). AND Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in:
drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as:
Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes. Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated. OR Certification:
Engineering technicians may be certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. Certification by the Institute will be helpful as a measure of the technician's quality of experience. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and provides valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.NOTE:

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
